| Haven't posted in almost a month, so here's what's new:
Every year some 5th graders from Japan come over to my mom's school for a week and stay with host families. This year we hosted one of the teachers, and it's been really interesting. They arrived last week Saturday and there was this welcome party shindig at some family's house in a magical city called Athens on the Hill, which I had never heard of. The house was HUGE. It could probably fit at least 7 of mine, including the backyard. Words cannot describe the pure joy I felt prancing around freely in the backyard, without worry of running into a wall. They had a pool and a pool house with separate his & hers bathrooms/changing rooms, a game room with a pool table, mini-bar, air hockey table, organ, and an old Coke machine, a fire pit that looked like you could burn a whole person like Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I, and a huge bar with tables and chairs. Inside they had those old phones that call different parts of the house, a garden room that had a fountain and a fake bird chirping, and everyone in the family seemed to have their own ipod. I'm going to write a song about their house and present it to that family, in hopes that they will consider letting me move in for the summer.
So back to the Japanese teacher that stayed with us. Her name is Yuko and she's 33, and she didn't speak English very well so my mom was the one who mainly talked to her. I think the only Japanese words I said to her were "hajimemashite" and "arigato." Later on we talked about the differences between Pokemon, Disneyland, and Universal Studios in Japan and America. When she saw one of our kitchen drawers filled with different kinds of chopsticks, she said "whoa...this is like Japan," which totally made me laugh. She showed us the tea ceremony, and my next-door neighboor and my mom's friend came over to join the fun. My mom couldn't finish the tea, so Yuko says, "uhh...I don't want to waste, so I will drink it for you. This is not part of the ceremony." Good times. We took her to Knott's Berry Farm last Sunday and today we're taking her, the principal, and the program coordinator shopping at Del Amo. They leave on Sunday morning, so we had a "sayonara party" for them on Friday night at the school. It was pretty fun, especially because we had Church's chicken.
In other news, I saw "An Awesome Night with the Beastie Boys" on Thursday at the Long Beach town center, and then went over to Guppy's with my brother and my sister, who had to leave early because her husband was mad that she was eating without him...haha. As my brother and I were leaving we saw the old apartment gang...how funny! If only we had stayed a few minutes longer, then I could have had them finish off the rest of the shaved ice.
I'm trying to save money to stay in a hotel for AX this year, and so far I should be okay if I don't buy dvd's every other week and if I work E3 again. I also want to go to Comic-Con this year, provided that I'm not broke.
And finally, I have to say that the fake Bleach 73 was awesome. Pitagora Switch! I must memorize the Algorithm Taisou. |
